Stephen Foster School Visit

Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting Stephen Foster Elementary School as part of The League of Extraordinary Authors. A student at the school won our “Visit My School” contest and N. Jane Quackenbush and I were delighted to speak about our books and our love of literacy at the Gainesville, Florida elementary school.

With Literacy Week kicking off on January 26th, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. I myself spoke to 200 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students about my book series, The Geneva Project and how I come up with my magical characters. Speaking to students is probably one of my favorite things about being a young adult author. Meeting young readers and hearing their amazing ideas, and experiencing their openness to creativity is what I love about my job. I hope I inspired the students to be creative in their writing, but I know they have truly inspired me to keep doing what I do.

I donated a set of my books to the school library and many of the students said they plan to read the series.  I can’t wait to discuss more about my books with the Stephen Foster students. Keep Calm and Read On!  I know you all have bright futures.
